It’s never too late to think big when it comes to upgrading your makeup efforts, whether it’s just for a casual stroll or a special occasion only two weeks away – and luckily for all of us, 2018 is showing great promise in the realm of beauty brilliance.
Worry not, as you no longer have to stick to the same old (although still gold) tips and tricks from the past seasons, on the contrary! Coming straight from Instagram divas, fashion designers and your street style enthusiasts, there’s a whole slew of fun, elegant and vivid ways to emphasize your lovely traits. Here are my beauty and makeup predictions for 2018:
Rihanna’s obsession with highlighter
Before you say that gold highlighter has existed well before Rihanna stirred the fashion and beauty waters, yes, it has, but it has been silently waiting for the perfect moment to dazzle us with its radiance. Gold on the lips, gold on the cheeks, or even on your eyes, you name it, it should be a part of your routine.
And if you get tired of gold (although that seems unlikely), Rihanna’s vivid collection boasts a whole range of purple, pink, peach and green, among others, that will suit any style perfectly.
Minimalism on the rise
The cliché saying that less is more is about to make us all want for fewer choices, but focus on quality in our beauty ensemble. That, however, doesn’t mean that there’s no room for playful beauty maneuvers, but it poses a challenge for those who like to mix and match numerous makeup items for a single look.
Give your skin room to shine, and focus only on one or two things: it can be the immortal red lip (the ombre twist on the original look still applies), and a dash of lash (because enormous lashes are a big hit in 2018), and you’re good to go!
Healthy skin front and center
As an extension of the previous trend to push for a more nude, makeup-free look, there’s a greater focus on healthy skin and proper skincare than ever before. And the best way to achieve a blemish-free complexion is (drumroll, please) – diet, of course! Proper, micronutrient-rich and superfood-based nutrition is the new essence of beauty.
So, find lotions and soaps rich in vitamin E, and include the best vitamin E capsules in your diet to keep your vitamin intake under control. Also, check out other antioxidants for skin health, such as vitamin C and A, for a youthful skin that needs no makeup.
Ultra violet everything
Pantone has made a bold choice for the color of 2018, and if you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s a mysterious and royal-worthy shade of purple called the Ultra Violet – and it’s about to become omnipresent in everything you wear, dab and slather.
If you find it a tad tough to work into your daily wardrobe and makeup, start small, for example with a nail polish in this tone, or a lipstick for a night out with the girls.
A pop of color in the inner corner of your eye
This year is all about bringing your attention to the finest and most minuscule of details that can make a major impact on your entire look! One such detail is the inner corner of your eye, where you undoubtedly already put some makeup from time to time, but 2018 has a different idea.
Just a pinch of vibrant hue such as pink, purple, blue or green in this particular corner, and you’ll give your eyes a brighter, wider look and make them look bigger in an instant. Plus, that irresistible shimmer is always a good way to complement any outfit whatsoever.
Edgy nails
Along with a minimalist mindset and a range of beauty tricks that emphasize your natural look, 2018 will be the year of fun and geometrical patterns on your nails. While this asymmetry-loving trend has already been present for ages in the fashion universe, this time your hands will make the statement.
Simplistic and contrasting shades such as black and white to blend into unusual, sharp patterns and shapes will be more than welcome, but colors will always be welcome!
