So many of us dream about our two-week holiday for the other 50 weeks of the year, that it can be easy to forget those apparently fortunate few who actually get to travel as part of their job! If you’re one of them, this article will likely have reminded you that you want a holiday, but that you feel like you travel enough as it is.
To give you some food for thought, we’re going to take a look at a few ways you can get yourself excited about your upcoming break from the day to day even if you are a frequent traveler.
Camping
The problem with travelling for work is that you might feel like you’ve already had half a dozen city breaks this year and you’d rather just stay at home. If you want to be able to take a break from the norm, then what you really need to do is get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get back in touch with nature.
Picking a camping site a couple of hours drive away from home is a great way to make the most of a week’s holiday. Choose a site that is within walking distance of a few small towns and villages and you’ll be all set. By spending your time enjoying a Sunday roast and a walk in the country, you’ll be able to get away from it all without having that deja vu moment when you head to airport departures for the tenth time this year!
Embrace a New Language
If you find yourself forever having to go back and forth to the same country for work, then it can make all the difference to go somewhere totally new.
Choose a city location so you have plenty to do and see, but also choose somewhere where you’re not a native speaker. This will allow you to get into the culture in a completely different way than it would if you were there for work with a translator and a business team surrounding you. It’ll also get your mind thinking as you have to learn a new language on the move.
Plan a Walking Holiday
Getting back in touch with nature is a great way to let the stresses and strains of the world of work wash over you. By picking a trail like the Camino de Santiago and planning your route in advance you’ll be able to see and do some truly amazing things.
The views will stay with you for a lifetime, and they’ll be all the more sweet as you’ve had to put one foot in front of the other all morning to reach them. Take a couple of photos to remember the day and then you can proceed to your accommodation for the night. Ideal if you want to avoid the stale feeling of living out of the same room for a week that so many frequent travelers can identify with.
Travel With Friends
One of the things that can make business travel hard is that your friends and family are only with you via Skype and FaceTime. If you really want to enjoy your holiday then in a lot of ways it doesn’t really matter where you go, as long as you’re with the people you want to go with.
Plan a long weekend with a group of old friends you haven’t seen for a while, or a stay in a large country cottage with several other couples and you’ll be all set. The contrast between the social side of this holiday and the seriousness of your work travel will make it a trip that lifts your mood and leaves you feeling happy and refreshed.
