The Wanderlust Tag

It’s Saturday afternoon: the sun is out, I have my Fluffy Towels Yankee Candle burning and I could not think of a better thing to share on this beautiful May day than The Wanderlust Tag.

Where was your first plane to?

My first ever plane journey was to Cyprus and I absolutely loved it.

Where have you travelled to that you would love to visit again?

I’d love to go back to most of the places I’ve visited because I never feel like I’ve immersed myself enough in the culture and history of the place. If I had to choose one place though, I think it would have to be Cuba because we spent the majority of the holiday in the resort. That said, we did spend a few days travelling to and from Trinidad where we got to explore a rainforest and some small villages, so I’d definitely like to do more of that.

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no object, where are you going?

Oh god, I don’t know. Right now I’d choose to go to Marrakech, Morocco. I’ve wanted to visit Marrakech since I was a kid: it just looks so beautiful and cultured.

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or car?

I hate travelling by car because we used to drive the 1000 miles from Hessle to Cannes every year when I was a kid and it would take two full days. I like plane journeys but they also get pretty boring when you’ve been on them for more than about 45 minutes and the toilet situation is absolutely abysmal. So, I’d have to pick trains because you aren’t as confined, you can see everything as you travel and who doesn’t enjoy the train-centric tradition of buying every magazine in the station’s WH Smith’s to read on the way?

Favourite travel website?

Well, the National Geographic‘s website is obviously a big deal and Lonely Planet is great, but I much prefer travel blogs like World Of Wanderlust, Travelettes and Flying The Nest.

Where would you travel to just eat the food?

Italy: always Italy! Bruschetta, lasagna, pizza, meatballs, ciabatta, gnocchi; as long as there’s no pesto I’m all in.

Is there a place you would never go again?

Lanzarote. I’m sorry, I’m sure some places there are lovely but I’ve been to Lanzarote twice now and both times the people I met were rude, it was rainy and everything was a bit… grotty.

Can you recite your passport number from memory if asked?

Nope, I couldn’t even tell you where it is in the book.

Do you prefer the Window, Aisle, or Middle seat?

If I’m sharing the row with people I know I’ll fight for the window seat like a three-year-old. However, if I’m sharing a row with people I don’t know I’m going to have to take the aisle seat otherwise I’ll be constantly anxious about getting out to pee.

How do you pass the time on the air plane?

Air plane? I usually arrive at the airport a good four hours before take off so I usually have a load of magazines by the time I’m boarding, but I also tend to take a book to read or a newspaper with crosswords in to fill out. If it’s a long flight with TV’s I’ll watch some movies that I haven’t watched yet, although pro tip: choose the light movies! When my brother and I travelled to New York a few years ago he chose to watch Prometheus and had an awful time, whereas I watched The Katy Perry Movie and was practically brain-dead for two hours. Time flew.
