As I spent that first two weeks of December in Leed’s St James’ Hospital and at my grandparents’ house listening to their strange stories - they once lived in a minivan and were surprised to find it missing after they parked it in/on Piccadilly Circus - I’ve only just finished Christmas shopping. Throughout my frantic shopping trips at Victoria Gate, Trinity and Amazon I noticed that Christmas stockings and sacks have become significantly more stylish than I remember them being.
Although I’m sure we probably had proper stockings, I seem to remember that as children my brother and I had large plastic/cardboard bags with slightly threatening-looking snowmen on them as Christmas sacks. They more than served their purpose and we were always pleased to see them, but I have to admit these new-fangled Christmas stockings and sacks are a little easier on the eyes. Plus, I can give the stockings to my mum to use as giant socks because her post-kidney transplant legs are like water balloons. HI MUM.
