Improving Your Home’s Kerb Appeal

They say that you should start as you mean to go on, in all areas of your life. If you begin well, then the tone will be set, and you’ll be more likely to have high standards throughout whatever it is you’re trying to achieve. When it comes to your home, that means ensuring that the outside area is on point. Too many people think that their home begins when they walk through the front door, but this isn’t the case. It begins outside. As well as making arriving at your home more appealing, upping your home’s kerb appeal can also increase the value of the property. Below, we take a look at a few ways you can nudge things in the right direction.

Doors and Windows

It’s easy to overlook your front door and windows (especially the latter), but they can bring down the appearance of your home if they’re not maintained. Let’s think about your front door, to begin. This is your opportunity to add a splash of colour and sparkle to your property; your door is one of the few areas of your home where you can push things a little. So look at making a statement by adding a colourful blue wooden door or something similarly bold. For your windows, you should change them out for newer models if they’ve been there for a few years — you’ll notice the difference.

Adding a Pathway

Many people’s front gardens are unremarkable, but there are some simple additions that’ll improve the overall look. A pathway that leads from your front gate to your door, for example, is one such way. Get a paving slab and concrete delivery, and build the path. It’ll look excellent, especially if the areas on either side have a more natural feel, with plants and grass and so on. And talking of plants…

Adding Kerb Appeal Plants

It takes a little bit of effort, sure, but there’s much to love about a front yard that has plenty of beautiful plants and flowers brightening up the space. If you take the pathway route, you’ll have plenty of space to bring your garden to life, and especially if you don’t need to park your car on the driveway. As well as in the ground, you can also look at hanging baskets near your front door. They always look good, providing they’re well-watered and kept in a healthy state.

Repainting or Rendering

Finally, let’s have a think about the exterior of your home. This can fall into a state of disrepair over the years, and it can drag down the quality of your home. The annoying thing about it is that the homeowner is usually the last person to spot the damage, because they’re so used to looking at their property. So take a look at yours. If it’s looking a little worse for wear, then you can have it painted or rendered. This is especially recommended if you’re looking to sell — it can cost a fair amount to do, but you’ll get the money back and then some in added value.
