May Photo Diary | Siobhan Harmer

Besides my birthday, the only other day of significance is May 31st, which is the Degree Show. All this week I’ve been painting and making collages. I find it ironic that in the last week of my education I have indulged in activities I must have done in my first week of education. Seventeen years ago. Shit.

Okay, if you’re going to continue reading my blog in the future let’s all just get comfortable and settle into the knowledge that you are going to be reading a lot about how being unemployed is not a good time.

So May was a lot like April; never ending university work and the slow decent into madness. Except for one day when is was my birthday! I’m 21 now. Like a grown up. There will probably be a post on it at some point. I know, hurray. I was really spoilt. Gift-wise, my mum and brother got me a proper coffee machine, that I love and is not good for my caffeine in take. April got me the most amazing personalised box with coffee, wine, candy, our first cat (Hello Kitty but still, we’re starting our life together as cat ladies), a scarf and a picture of us when we were about fifteen that’s not incredibly unflattering, which is the best kind. Rosy got me a Totoro cape, which I wear often enough to keep my denial of impending maturity firmly in place; an immaturity cloak as it were. Alex is also taking us all on a road trip when university is finished, so I like the fact my presents were a survival kit, a way of maintaining my childhood/ hiding from the scary world and an escape method.
