Strange Sounds You Shouldn’t Be Hearing In Your Home

There are some sounds you can expect to hear in your home. There is the creaking from the ageing walls, the sound of water trickling through your heating pipes, and the humming sounds from your refrigerator. Not to mention the snoring of the person sleeping next to you. Ever wanted to live in complete peace and quiet? Think again! As well as the expected sounds, there are some that you need to be wary of. They could be symptomatic of something more serious, and you need to get to the bottom of them as soon as possible. Take the following as examples of strange sounds you shouldn’t be hearing in your home.

Popping Sounds

It may just be the kids playing with the bubble wrap again, but it could also be something serious. If you hear the sounds of popping within your walls, there may be a gas leak from within the pipes. You might also hear these explosive pops within your boiler, as well, which are also symptomatic of a possible leak. This is one sound you want to deal with quickly, as the next sound you hear could be a giant explosion, especially if you have lit a match. Call your gas company for further advice, and if you do have an issue with your boiler, call out a service such as this one, http://ecosafe.co/boiler-services-in-bournemouth/, to sort out the problem.

Scratching Sounds

Hear a scratching sound from behind your walls? It may well be the ghost of the last resident, in which case read our advice here, http://www.thereyouaresibby.co.uk/how-to-survive-if-you-are-living-in-a-horror-movie/, or it may be something more living than dead, in which case, you probably need to call out pest control. The scratching could be coming from mice or rats nibbling at your insulation, or a bird trapped within your walls. Alternatively, if your cat has been missing for a while, that scratching sound should also give you a clue to her whereabouts!

Banging Sounds

If you have been playing your music too loud again, it may be your neighbours trying to get your attention. On the other hand, it may be a ‘pressure hammer,’ the sound the air pressure makes in your water pipes. This will be true should the sound occur after you have flushed the loo or turned on any of the taps in your home. You can deal with this yourself by resetting your pipes by turning off the water mains or calling in a plumber to locate the source of the problem.

Buzzing sounds

Assuming you don’t have a wasps nest (read the following article if you do Nest) this will have something to do with your electrics. This is especially true if the buzzing sound comes from your light fixtures and electrical outlets. If this is the case, you need to call out the electrician. There will be a problem with your wiring which could cause a fire if not dealt with in good time. On the other hand, it could be that fly that has been lurking for weeks. In which case, it’s time to dig out the fly swatter again!

Finally

As we said at the beginning, all houses make sounds, and they are often nothing to worry about. However, if you have noticed the sounds mentioned in this article, you need to do something about them as soon as possible. Your health and safety may depend on it!
