The old saying goes: Do something you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Well, anyone who’s ever lived knows that that’s completely untrue. No matter how much you love the thing you’re doing, you’re still putting in work, and no job is perfect and ideal. There will always be some aspects that you won’t feel like doing and that will be a pain in the neck. However, if you’re already putting a lot of work into a passion project, why not turn it into something that actually brings you money? Here’s how you can turn your passion into profit:

  • Sell your talent

Are you a talented artist, or perhaps a writer? Well, as for all of those drawings or scripts that you have made because you love doing it and never letting them see the light of day – there’ someone who wants to buy them! If your art is either beautiful or useful, you can market it and make it a great income on the side. You can either set up an online shop where you can sell your works when you make them, or you can put out an add and take commissions from clients, which will generally pay off more because they are made to order.

  • Earn from ads

Whether you have a blog or a YouTube channel that you’re passionate about and putting effort in, if you’re not monetizing, you’re losing. Of course, not all content can be monetized, and there are sometimes traffic minimum requirements to place ads on your content, but it’s one of the easiest ways to earn without having to do any additional work at all. If you want to get the most of it, consider completing a quick course in monetization and get the hang of it.

  • State your opinion

Perhaps one of the easiest options for online earning is simply stating your opinion by filling out surveys. You can get paid to take surveys online, which might sound like a dream, but is actually completely legitimate. If you are a big company and you are about to invest several millions into changing your logo or packaging, you first want to know what your target audience thinks about the design, which is why you’ll pay an agency to do some research and have people give their opinions.

  • Find a hole in the market

Nobody will ask you for your work if there is already an established company that’s been doing that for decades. And, lowering your prices will only make it seem like you are doing less quality work than the other companies. What you really want to focus on is finding a niche that doesn’t have any experts who specialize in that and do it brilliantly. Once you find it, try to adapt to it as much as you can. You can, of course, still have a broad spectrum of interests and services. Remember that it’s not just about finding a hole, but something that customers are actually asking for.

  • Don’t quit your day job

…Yet. Having a passion project turn into a business is a great way to earn money on the side, but if you aren’t completely sure that you can live off of the passion job alone, you might want to stay at your full time job for a while longer. Even if you want to dedicate more time to your passion project, you can try slowly lowering your hours while growing your business, to make sure you’re always at a stable income.

Turning your passion into a job can make you feel like you are really living your best life, but it might also make you feel detached to that passion, so make sure you think twice before you commit.
