For as long as I can remember, we’ve been shaming and criticizing people for pairing print with print. Back in the day, it was considered the biggest fashion faux pas anyone could ever commit and often landed celebrities in the fashion no-no department. Which is why no one ever dared to question this fashion choice up until now.

Today people are experimenting with their fashion choices more than ever. Fashion no-no’s are officially a thing of the past and people are making their own fashion rules as they go. One of these rules is not being scared when it comes to pairing print with another print. People have finally started embracing and experimenting with this trend and we’re all for it. Here’s how you can nail this look with the right attitude and print:

1) Keep It Monotonous

It’s easy to get carried away when experimenting with prints. However, going overboard in this scenario can make you look loud instead of classy. This is why it’s important to make sure that you match colors first instead of prints. If the colors end up clashing then no amount of amazing matching prints can save your outfit. When trying to mix and match two pieces together, always make sure that the colors complement each other or belong to the same family. This will make your outfit more fun and less loud. In this scenario, you can opt for a vibrant multi colored blouse and pair it with a print that has colors present in the blouse and vice versa. Same is the case with dresses and jackets, just pair up the colors and you’re good to go.

2) Break The Monotony With Prints

Sometimes print on print can get a little overwhelming and make your outfit look like it’s all over the place. In such situations, it’s best to add some solid color pieces to the mix. For instance, a printed blouse and skirt can be toned down with a plain cardigan or jacket. Or you could opt for a plain skirt and add some printed shoes to the mix. The plain piece in between all the colors and patterns will help keep your outfit grounded and keep it from becoming “too much”. The options are endless, you get to choose which piece of clothing gets replaced with a simpler subtle piece.

3) Add A Third Print To The Mix

Pairing printed clothing items together is easy but the real challenge is adding a third print into this mix. It may sound ridiculous initially, but if you have mastered the art of print on print then you’re headed towards a flawless look. This third print is usually in the form of shoes and looks absolutely stunning. Printed shoes are the talk of this season and look amazing when paired right. Now is a good time to invest in a couple of printed shoes, they will not disappoint. If you’re scared of going overboard then you can start small with a printed dress, printed socks and shoes. Or you can opt for some other printed accessory like a headband to finish your look.

4) Incorporate The Same Family Of Prints

When thinking of mix and match, your instinct might be to pair different prints together. Sadly, it’s not as easy as it sounds and requires a lot of thinking and effort. An easier solution is to pair prints from the same family together. Different colors, sizes and patterns will help create a vibrant look without looking too crazy. Stripes and other designs work well together as long as the pattern and color are different. Floral prints look elegant and can be worn together for a vibrant bold look.

5) Don’t Be Afraid To Experiment

A print combination that works wonders for me, may look ridiculous on you. This is not a universal thing and the only way of getting it right is by experimenting. You need to see what works for your body type instead of blindly following some trend. For instance, horizontal stripes can give a broader body illusion. If you want to nail this print on print look then keep trying to mix and match until you get it right. Think of this as your artwork, you get to match different colors and patterns together to create a masterpiece.

In the end, all that matters is wearing what makes you feel good while simultaneously making you look like a million bucks. A lot of people follow the trend but don’t feel good. It is not necessary to wear what everyone is wearing. Sometimes you just have to come up with your own style. Maybe people will like it and start following your trend! So always remember to dress the way you like.
