Correct Kit: What You Need Before You Begin A Renovation Project

Renovating isn’t something to be entered into lightly as we discovered in a blog post earlier this week. It can cost a lot of money and take up a lot of your time. It can also be a real inconvenience as it can cause a lot of disruption in your life. But if you have made the decision to go ahead and do it, you may as well do it well. That is where your protective clothing and tools come in, because as they say you can’t get the best results if you aren’t using the best kit.

Clothing

For most renovation and DIY jobs, a pair of overalls is enough to keep your everyday clothes and body protected from paint and mess.

However, for some jobs, you may need to use items that have a higher level of protection. For example, when using a saw or sander, it is always a good idea to use a dust mask. This is a cover worn over the mouth and nose that stop you breathing in particles which can cause allergic reactions and damage to the lungs.

Similarly, if you are handling glass or other items that could splinter off, you need to wear protective goggles. These aren’t too expensive to purchase either, and it’s really worth it as eye injuries and notoriously difficult to treat, as well as being really painful. Remember that renovating can be stressful enough, with adding an injury like this to the mix.

Adhesives and Nails

Once you have yourself protected, then you need to look at the items and tool that you are using for the work. It’s always best to go for high quality, especially in term of things nails and glue. This is because when you are fixing things to the wall, or to each other, you expect the result to both to last a long time.

Therefore do a little research on these items and check what would work best for the job you are doing. There are plenty of products on the market, and you can get some really strong, secure stuff from places like Kenyon Adhesives now to help you.

Drills

Obviously, one tool that most folks need when they are renovating is an electric drill. Using a power drill is a lot easier and quicker than a manual one. Most come with power pack now, so they are cordless, and that can help you get into all of those hard to reach places.

Your best bet is to look for a combi drill. As this provides the best value for money as you can change out the drill bits. This means you will only need one drill for the entire job that you have to do instead of using a variety of different tools.

Workbenches

Of course, something else that can be super useful when renovating your home is a workbench. These are adjustable height benches made from wood and metal that split in the middle to allow you to saw or clamp things together.

Look for one with aluminium legs that fold up. As this makes them easier to move about, and simple to pack away when you have finished using them too.
