Friday Finds #29: Wedding Ideas

Last weekend, Amartya and I travelled down to Ilfracombe in the south of England to attend his friends’ wedding. We arrived at The Britannia Hotel at 12.30am on Saturday and within twelve hours we found ourselves in one of the most beautiful places in England. There, Mike and Simon wed on a hill by the sea surrounded by their friends and family, most of whom had travelled from around the world to be with them on their special day. Needless to say, the entire day was lovely and I was honoured to have been part of the festivities.

Now, I’ve been to a few weddings in my time and although they were equally special many of them, particularly the religious ceremonies, lacked… personality. Mike and Simon’s wedding though, was filled wth vivacious, creative and thoughtful wedding ideas. They walked down the aisle as husbands whilst we blew bubbles over them, the seating plan was divided by locations (including India, which was chosen for Amaryta) and everyone received a tiny parcel filled with Freddos and Hershey Kisses. After all, Simon is English whilst Mike is American. The groomsmen wore rainbow socks and entered the marque to individually tailored song clips - Amartya and Juan were particularly good. All in all, this wedding was a refreshing change from the usual church weddings I attend.

These wonderful little ideas got me thinking about other ways in which weddings can be made more personal and quirky, so that is what today’s Friday Finds will explore. For more information on each of the ideas, simply click on the pictures and you’ll be directed to the source.
