Whenever you think a room in your home needs updating, you have two choices. You can gut it and start over by replacing everything, or you could just do a few touch-ups and fixes. This is especially true for kitchens, which have more permanent fixtures than other rooms. Both options could work for you, but deciding which one is the best choice can take a while. One of them might be more expensive or time-consuming. You could have so many things to fix that by the time you’re done, you’ve pretty much replaced the kitchen anyway. There are a few factors to take into account when you’re trying to decide which option is better for you and your kitchen.
What Could You Fix or Replace?
Before you decide whether to replace your whole kitchen, you can think about what it’s possible to fix or swap out for something newer. For example, kitchen cupboards are easy to repaint, replace the handles, or perhaps replace the doors. This is easier than buying and fitting whole new units. There are kitchen sinks to complete any kitchen, which could brighten up your kitchen without having to replace the whole thing. New appliances can make a huge difference too, and so can painting or adding tiles to the walls. You can make repairs and replacements instead of getting a brand new kitchen.
Costing Up Your Options
The price of both options is obviously an important thing to consider. By the time you’ve made all the repairs and replacements you want to, will you have spent more than if you had ripped it all out and installed a new kitchen? Working out the price of a new kitchen is often easy. If you want to buy a new kitchen as a package, you just need to know the material price and installation price. It might be a bit more complicated to work out how much various updates will cost. If you’re going to do them yourself, you can just research the materials you need. But if you want to have it done professionally, you also need quotes for the cost of the work.
Consider the Time It Will Take
Money isn’t the only thing that’s valuable to you. Your time is precious too, so it’s worth considering how much of your time each option is going to take. If you make a series of small updates, you could spread them across a longer period of time and perhaps your kitchen won’t ever really be out of commission. But if you want to replace the whole kitchen, it could take a while to complete. Can you survive without the use of your kitchen for a few days or maybe even weeks?
Is It a Permanent Fix?
Don’t forget to think about how long the solution will last for. A brand new kitchen is going to last years, but the same can’t be said for various updates. Are you just patching over some cracks that are eventually going to break?
Only you can decide if a new kitchen or some updates to your current one is the right choice. Think about the different factors to help you decide.
