Time spent at college or university is a precious and valuable time that offers many advantages for deepening one’s knowledge, broadening horizons and expanding social circles. But it’s can also be very stressful and challenging at times. Learning to adapt, staying motivated and proactive are skills that any student should learn in order to make their uni years not just bearable but pleasurable as well.

However, this is not always easy to do, so here are several tips to help students turn things in their favour.

Staying motivated

Struggling with motivation is a common problem for many students, especially if they have a busy schedule and a vivid social life. Juggling all the responsibilities and achieving all goals can certainly put a strain on anyone, so losing the drive is a frequent result. The best course of action is to take a step back and refocus. Take a break and determine what it is that caused the lack of motivation and devise a strategy to overcome it.

Next, set yourself new goals by considering where you are at that moment and where you want to be after graduation. Then, break up the process in smaller steps and doable tasks. This will give you a positive boost and the necessary inspiration.

Getting organised

Without good organisation, staying motivated is practically impossible. Therefore, start by organising your working space: clear it out before every study session, keep only the essentials and eliminate any distractions. Make an agreement with yourself that you won’t check your social media profiles or watch TV until you have finished your tasks.

Moreover, take periodic breaks and do something fun, like a short walk in the park or yoga and meditation. It will rejuvenate you and refresh your focus. And don’t forget to give yourself praise for your progress and past accomplishments. It can be quite an inspiration to remind yourself that you’ve already conquered some major goals before!

Being resourceful

A part of being a successful student is being resourceful. With all the stress over the study loads that keep piling up, you need to find a way to take some of that load off. One solution may be turning to others who came before you and relying on Griffith uni past papers and students’ notes. Their main purpose is to help you get through your studies by offering the experiences of previous students who have already studied the same courses and passed the same exams. You’ll get insight into different authors and viewpoints on your course content and this novelty can help your brain process information more efficiently.

Maintaining a positive attitude

One of the things that helps students stay on track is keeping a positive attitude. Adopting a right mindset can go a long way in keeping you motivated, especially when you have a lot of pages to cover. The trick is in training your mind to focus on solving problems and overcoming setbacks, rather than dwelling on failures and worrying about the past.

Staying healthy

Finally, you need to take care of yourself and stay healthy. Тhat means eating a balanced diet, avoiding empty calories, staying away from junk food and eating more fresh fruits and veggies. This will help you get through those sugar highs and lows that can affect your stress coping abilities.

In addition, make exercise a regular part of your daily routine. Movement is what keeps the body alert, increases blood flow and sends oxygen surging to the brain which leads to an increase in memory, concentration and reasoning.

University years are one of the best times in a person’s life full of change, independence, responsibility and growth. At times it is challenging and overwhelming, but with these tips, it should be easy to achieve balance and make most of your college time.
