While runways are a great place for scouting new fashion trends, sometimes the best style inspiration comes from the street style outside the shows. With fashion month coming to a close once again, now’s the perfect time to get inspired by some of the best street style moments seen on the pavements of New York, London and Milan. From statement-making outerwear to bold colour choices and unique accessories, here are the best street style trends for the upcoming season, according to the biggest fashion capitals of the world:
New York
New Yorkers are known for their bold outfits and daring fashion choices, both on and off the runway. A wide array of unexpected looks graced the streets of New York this season, from the return of chic plaid trousers to the surprisingly elegant trend of statement clear raincoats that not only kept the fashionistas completely dry, but they also allowed them to show their fabulous outfits in all of their glory.
Pastel pink fur coats were also the focal point of many eye-catching outfits, while a huge assortment of head to toe leather ensembles brought out the biker chick in many Fashion Week attendees. Apart from the tendency to choose surprising accessories, such as coloured aviators, white leather boots and clear accessories in every form, New York Fashion Week street style also presented us with the biggest trend of them all: vibrant colours. In an effort to warm up their looks during the cold and gloomy New York weather, attendees opted for various shades of yellow, orange, red and brown, contrasting the grey February skies in the most beautiful way possible.
London
When it comes to street style, London always delivers the goods. This city is known for its edgy and fearless looks, and it consistently showcases some of the best outfits and ensembles around, especially during Fashion Week. This year, as the runways displayed the new AW ’19 collections, the streets outside played host to a large variety of daring and innovative outfits.
From traditional checks and classic trench coats to oversized pieces incorporated into carefully layered outfits and a sea of beige-toned looks all around, the London fashion elite is delivering endless inspiration for next season’s show-stopping wardrobe choices. However, the trend that seemed to be the most prominent during London Fashion Week is the ever popular athleisure style. Using fashionable Nike shoes as the focal point of their outfits, fashionistas paired these trendy sneakers with oversized coats, puffer jackets and even some stylish biker shorts, in order to construct the chicest looks this season has seen so far.
Milan
Milan Fashion Week has always been one of the best places to preview the biggest trends of the next season. While famous Italian designers, such as Prada and Versace, tend to strive for sleek, minimalistic elegance year after year, fashion show attendees, on the other hand, are always ready to pull out the most eccentric and extravagant looks for the front row.
Sparkles and sequins embellished almost every fashionable outfit, while kitsch bag charms, in the form of fluffy trims, cartoonish key rings and 3D charms, swung off even the most expensive arm candy around. Lace-up biker jackets and sleek leather footwear with a fetishistic edge ruled the pavements, and a splash of bright yellow hues brought life to many striking outfits. Skinny jeans seemingly lost their popularity, as this season saw the new, ultra-wide cuts become a firm favourite on the streets of the Italian fashion capital.
Due to its ability to express the authenticity of those who wear it, street style has gained a significant role, both in the fashion industry and our own lives, and it continues to set the latest style trends and standards with each new season.
