Getting through the summer months with your skin still in perfect condition is quite a feet. With the increased sun exposure along with sand wind and water, your skin will need all the help it can get to stay hydrated and glowing throughout the whole summer. So here are some great tips on how to provide your skin with all it needs during the hot summer months.

Let’s Start With The Essentials

Of course, sunscreen is a must. And don’t think applying it once a day is enough, every time you get out of the water you need to reapply it. It is essential that your skin stays protected at all times. Make sure you use a high SPF and that the product of your choice has an additional hydrating effect. You should also opt for waterproof, non-greasy formula so that you can protect your clothes as well as your skin. Another summer skincare essential is hydration, drink plenty of fluids daily, it can help prevent your skin from drying out.

Update Your Makeup Routine

Your makeup routine also needs updating during the summer months. It is far better for your skin to minimize the amount of makeup you apply so that your skin can breathe better. For example, instead of applying heavy foundation daily, use a quality concealer so that you can cover the problem areas and blend it well with the rest of your skin surface. You should also make sure you use waterproof mascara and minimize the amount of powder, whether its loose or pressed. Finally, apply lip balm prior to lipstick every day, your lips also need to be protected and stay hydrated. Preferably use a lip balm with a high SPF.

Don’t Forget To Exfoliate

Of course not as much as in the winter months. Exfoliating once a week is enough for summer months, but it is important to get rid of the dry, flaky skin and open up your pores so that your skin can breathe and absorb the moisturiser and sunscreen a lot better. And don’t stop at your face, use quality body scrubs on your entire body. During the summer, a lot more areas of your body are exposed and they need the same care that you provide to your face daily. Finally, try to use body scrubs that contain caffeine as they can have also firm your skin, and that is always a good thing, especially during bathing suit season.

Mind Your Feet

No skin care survival guide would be complete without directing your attention to your feet. We spend most of the summer barefoot or in sandals where all our imperfections are shown. No one wants to show their dry cracked heels. So it is important to pay proper attention to your feet at least once a week. Start with a good scrub to get all the dry skin off, then move on to a quality hydration treatment. Apply sufficient amounts of feet hydration cream so that your skin can really take it in, and it would be advisable to use special hydration socks so that your feet get hydrated overnight as well. Just a small reminder, don’t forget to apply sunscreen on your feet as well, it is the one area we tend to forget but it is as exposed as the rest of our body, even more so in summer shoe selections.

Have An Emergency Response Kit

Even with all the protection you apply you still might end up with some sunburns, this is why it is important to keep an emergency kit to relieve the discomfort and soothe your skin. It should contain a quality cooling gel and a good moisturising cream for later on. Make sure that the product of your choice contains Aloe Vera as it is the best option for soothing sunburn and preventing your skin from peeling after the fact. It would be wise to have this kit always at hand as sunburn can happen even on your way to work, and this way you can react in a timely manner.

You are now ready to help your skin survive the summer heat and strong sun rays. All that is left is to enjoy the warm, sunny days and take in the summer vibe.
